The big day may have come and gone, but keep in touch as we’re planning now for next year! World Computer Day 2024 was a dramatic success with events all over the world, including webinars, seminars, shout outs and social media at hashtag #WorldComputerDay
World Computer Day is an annual celebration of computing and the people who make IT happen.
Each year has a new theme, new events, new resources, and new friends to be made!
Like "Earth Day", this is a distributed event with people celebrating all over the world in their own location.
There's much to celebrate this year for World Computer Day, but nothing more important than the celebration of the wizards who brought us next generation computing technologies right after the launch of the ENIAC.
Last year, 2024 the theme was "The Big Three Computing Advances"
Storage, Tubes-To-Transistors, Whole Computing
Prior year February 15th, 2023 the theme was the Eckert-Mauchly Computer Corporation, the worlds first company set up to develop commercial, all-electronic computing devices.
Prior year, February 15, 2022 the theme included a deep dive into the revolutionary 6502 chip; the chip that changed the world, created in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania!
Prior to that, on February 15, 2021, we celebrated the ENIAC on World Computer Day; the 75th anniversary of the world's first all-electronic, programmable computer, the ENIAC at www.ENIACDay.org web site.
Take your time, look around, and learn all there is to know about the World Computer Day celebrations on February 15th, each year.
We hope you enjoy the celebration!
Q & A about World Computer Day and its theme this year of the 6502 Chip.
World Computer Day is a global celebration of the positive benefits of computers held on February 15th, each year. February 15th was chosen as it was the start-up date for the ENIAC; the world's first all electronic, programmable computer in 1946.
You can be an "active" or a "passive" participant. An active participant creates events in their location, posts on social media, joins in other events and leads. A passive participant watches all the great activity and has fun!
Global Network Ambassadors for World Computer Day organize events in geographic locations throughout the world and act as the point person in your country.
Social media channels are organized with hashtag #WorldComputerDay. Search on this index and you will find a wealth of education, activity and engagement. Feel free to post your celebration on Social Media and use Hashtag #WorldComputerDay
No. World Computer Day is a day to celebrate in your own manner. There is no fee. Donations to the "Donate Now" button on this web site are applied to broaden outreach efforts, globally. Donations are encouraged.
We take the date for World Computer Day from the date in which the ENIAC was started back in 1946. This first "all electronic, programmable" computer set the stage for an explosion of all electronic computing on into the next century. The ENIAC was big. The initial proposal, for a device containing about 5,000 vacuum tubes, grew to a final count of around 18,000 tubes.
If you like computers, please make a donation. Your support as a sponsor or partner will enable us to put you on this site, meet your goals, broaden outreach, and recognize the heroes! Your generous donation in any amount will fund the mission for World Computer Day celebrations.
